According deals to The Old Stuff online repository, the mark dates the piece to have been produced between 1857 and 1920. This plater is hand painted and signed by the artist "VAN". The artist painted a bunch of beautiful magenta colored roses with exquisitely painted stems and leaves on a ombre yellow background. The detail of this art is absolutely amazing. The platter's handles are painted gold as is the rim. The piece measures 11 inches in diameter and from handle to handle it measures 12.2 inches long. I did observe a hairline crack that does go all the way through (photos provided). Other that, the platter is in excellent overall condition considering the age. Just perfect for your summer garden ladies' luncheons.
