Vintage Boho Woodland Sterling Silver Butterfly Brooch Pin With Facetted Bright Blue Gem $62.00

A sweet little pin from the 1950's measuring approximately 1 9/16" wide by 7/8" tall and weighing 4.3 grams total weight including deals the blue gem. I believe that this is a hard gemstone, possibly a heat treated blue topaz since there are no scratches or signs of wear on the gem. It is a rich, even bright transparent blue with a flat table and faceted edge all around. If this were glass it would likely be chipped or scratched. Glass just does not hold up well over time.

The pin was made from one piece of sheet silver, hand sawed, filed, tooled with design lines on the wings and body. The wings were shaped, the bezel and pin back soldered in place, polished and finally the gem set into place. I see a drip of solder on the wing which could easily be buffed off. It has no signature or hallmark. Acid testing comes up red indicating at least sterling silver.
