The handwork on this old textile was exceptionally well done and varied, celebrating the world of animals through an array of designs, techniques, and stitches.
The base cloth is white silk, with very few thinned areas. The colors are clear and vibrant...I recommend dry cleaning only, to preserve the colors.
The center design depicts many embroidered animals that are deals prancing around an exuberant burst of flowers,
More embroidered animals and flowers extend across the entire piece.
A wide 3-inch tasseled-fringe provides a border on all 4 sides.
Similar to the famed suzani textiles of Uzbekistan, beautiful Turkmen embroideries like this were multi-functional, used interchangeably as lavish table coverings, dish covers, bed spreads, wall hangings, shawls.
Embroidery stitching is visible on the back side.
In excellent collectible condition, this old textile has very mild wear-patterns acquired over many years.
