A handmade 5x7 picture frame made with traditional woodworking techniques. This one-of-a-kind frame features a Blood Wood, wenge and maple thin inlay banding set between border strips of walnut. All in a slightly ambrosia maple frame. It's a really lightweight frame.


Milled from three different wood sources, the inner inlay pattern is made from Exotic Blood wood from South America, African Wenge(the black), and walnut borders. The corners are splined with a 1/8 inch piece of blood wood again. All hand made. The blood wood corner splines not only set a small visual highlight but also providing strength, integrity and durability for the corner joints. This frame should be locked in for good.

For this frame I made a stop chamfered edge along the frame's outside edges to highlight the corners and making for a different look.

No stains or lacquer are used on the frame. Instead, I used Rubio Monocoat to highlight the natural beauty of the exotic woods and also leaves a natural, soft feel to the frame. The end result is only the absolute true colors of the woods are brought to life and unlike traditional waxes and oils, there is no need to continually apply additional oil/waxes to the wood. I used plexiglass for durability and hardboard for the backing.

The outside dimensions of the frame are right at 10 inches long x 8 inches wide.. 5/8's inches thick and the face of the frame is 1 3/4 inches wide.
