6 BOULDER OPAL DOUBLETS – Queensland Australia – Wholesale Parcel - New Old Stock - Made in Maine - Great for Wire wrapping
These 6 BOULDER OPAL DOUBLETS are a nice mix of patterns and colors. These doublets have a top of precious opal that's glued onto an ironstone back. This opal was taken from a seam or pool of opal that formed against a layer of ironstone. It comes from Queensland Australia. We examined both sides of the sliced opal before reattaching the opal with the most colorful side facing up. These BOULDER OPAL DOUBLETS have a combined weight of 6.38 carats. The opals measure from 11.7 x 6.5, 11.5 x 7.3, 10.5 x 7.5, 10.5 x 6.7, 10 x 4.5, to 9 x4.3 deals millimeters. These doublets were originally pre-formed in the 1980s between Australia and Maine. We recently finished cutting and polishing these gemstones. These Gemstones have been SUPER POLISHED. We're using a 21st Century polishing technique to SUPER POLISH Gemstones exceptionally brighter than what is normally seen by the public. Gemstones can look different under different types of light. The redder background images were taken with incandescent house light while the other images used a Daylight LED light source. Sunlight is the best light to view most gemstones. Unfortunately, we rarely have sunlight and blue skies in Maine, so outdoor photos are nearly impossible to take. White streaks on the photos are tricks of the light, not cracks. Our prices are at wholesale. A Gift box is included with this purchase.

OPAL 101
Why are some opals so expensive while other stones are so cheap?
There are cheap man-made stones worth a couple of bucks and fine gem quality opals that are worth more than a million dollars. There are many grades and price ranges for opal.
There are many types of opal such as Black, Crystal, White, Blue, Pink, Gray, Jelly, Water, and Fire Opal to give but a few examples.
There are a number of locations that opals can come from.
Much of the best quality opal in the world comes from Australia. Lightning Ridge is famous for Black Opal, White Cliff for White Crystal, Queensland for Boulder Opal, and Coober Pedy for White Opal.
Opal also occurs in Brazil, Mexico, Idaho, Peru, and Ethiopia. Classic opal once came from Europe.
There are Solid, Mosaic, Doublet, and Triplet Opals.
Opal Doublets are assembled and have two layers. There is the top colorful layer which is a thin slice of genuine precious opal over a base of common opal or what is called potch in the trade. Common opal is opal that formed without a play of color which is the precious opal layer. This allows opal doublets to be cheaper.
Triplets are a three-layered sandwich with a clear quartz, plastic, or glass top over the precious opal layer.
Mosaics are assembled custom fitted opal puzzles.
Solid opal is normally worth more than opal doublets, triplets, mosaics, or created opal.
You can see examples of all types and price ranges of opal on this site.
We don't buy them. We cut them. Our prices on Opal are at wholesale. Our wholesale price is half or a third of the price that you will pay in a jewelry store.
