c1870 French antique engraving bird print by Hector Giacomelli, sourced directly from France (see his photo). Made in The Gilded Age, this precious engraving has 5 birds in pursuit of a butterfly. Giacomelli was an expert bird nature artist during the 1870s period, parlaying his precious bird and plant studies into fine engravings and bookplates. (FYI, there are 3 engravings of this size, as well as a pair of larger bird engravings, and a yardlong of birds--all by Giacomelli in the same period, listed now in our shop. We do combine purchase and refund after checkout.) These are some of his finest studies. They are sharply detailed and are just beautiful, be sure to enlarge photos. Each engraving has the same rich color tones, do pardon any fading because of glass glare. And, each still has its old paper margin and title area intact. They are housed in wood grain distressed style frames that have nice natural patina with warm honey brown tones and markings that mimic nest filaments. The corners have burnished brass flying birds (see the closeup with a bird embellishment). Overall size of each frame is aprox 9.5 x 11.5 inches, ready to hang with glass. Each frame is in very good condition. The prints are also in VG condition with no tears or watermarks and very little handling wear, so much more beautiful than the camera eye can capture. The 2d to the last photo is a picture of all 3 together, but this listing is for one print only. Please excuse any whitish glass glare shadows in the photos, THE ENGRAVINGS ARE EVENLY TONED THROUGHOUT. Hang them staggered, or stacked vertically or horizontally.
