Product code: Vintage Ditlev deals Denmark Orange Glazed Chamotte Teapot and Single Cup and Saucer

It doesn't get much more authentic 'mid century modern' than this gorgeous chocolate brown chamotte clay with flowing glossy orange glaze teapot by Ditlev of Denmark!

The teapot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs and comes with a single matching demi tasse cup and saucer which is also in excellent form.

It was inherited from Scandinavian family and has never been used for tea, only displayed in my home for decades. Yet, I am told by those who are very familiar with Ditlev ceramics, that they are not just decorative, are of a usable utilitarian nature and made of very high fired, tough stoneware.

Marked 'Ditlev Danmark' on the base. Textured design with raised parallel stripes. Bright orange speckled glaze on upper regions of both teapot and cup.

This beautifully shaped teapot measures 8.5" in height and 7.5" from edge of handle to deals tip of spout. (21.5 x 19 cm.)

Henrik Ditlev Larsen founded 'Ditlev Keramik' in 1956.

His pieces were sold in the important designers cooperative store in Copenhagen called 'Den Permante'. Many acknowledged designers pieces were exhibited and put for sale here.

Before branching out in his own eponymous studio, Ditlev worked as "Thrower Number One" at the pottery of Lars Syberg, a well known Danish pottery studio in the 40s and 50s. At the same time the famous Bjørn Wiinblad worked there and was allowed to use the pottery in his spare time to make his own pieces.

Ditlev threw bowls, plates and figurines at night for Bjørn Wiinblad which Wiinblad afterwards decorated. When Wiinblad took over Nymølle Fajancefabrik in the '70's Ditlev joined him. If you find pieces with handles by Ditlev they are usually thrown pieces attached to the clay body, and they show his high level of his skill as a thrower.

A worthy addition to your home if you are a lover of all things MCM, Danish, colourful or simply hanker for a fine cup of tea!

The Fine Print:

***I'm a woman who loves to travel and have spent a ‘longish' and lucky lifetime exploring many parts of the world. Most of the items I list have at one time been used, worn and/or displayed in my home.

My aim is to be scrupulously accurate in the description of the articles I sell. Take the time to look closely at the photos. I regard them as key when ascertaining condition. Many of my items are older and, with age comes wrinkles (trust me I know!). Many times, not always, it's the flaws that give an item its charm and character.

Payment through ‘Direct Checkout/Etsy Payments' or Paypal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to use PayPal, just have a valid credit card. Detailed instructions on how to pay with a credit card without a PayPal account can be found at: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/361

If you are unsure about the checkout process, step-by-step instructions are found at : http://www.etsy.com/help/article/339

Unless noted otherwise, I will happily ship items worldwide. Please contact me for an accurate overseas shipping quote. Customs/import duties are always the buyer's responsibility.

***American customers, please note that I regularly travel across the border once a week to the US to ship items to you via USPS. If you purchase an item from me and don't mind waiting a few days beyond my normal 24/48 hr. shipping turn around, you will ironically receive the items sooner than you would have had I shipped directly from Canada and also avoid any customs/border hassles.

I do not accept ‘buyer's remorse' returns but if the item you purchase is damaged en-route or differs in major respects from that which you thought you were purchasing, monies will be refunded. However, the item must be returned to me immediately (if only to cry over). Buyer pays return shipping.

To keep costs down, I always try to use clean recycled packing materials. Also, mine has always been a smoke-free home.
