PUL (polyurethane laminate) is comfortable, very durable, and can be washed just the same as the rest of your laundry. PUL is the fabric frequently used in cloth diapers, and the polyurethane layer is what gives the fabric it's waterproof layer to protect your childs mattress. You can use this sheet underneath your childs regular sheet, as the fabric is not bulky, and it will fit smoothly underneath. Additionally, the outer layer of the fabric is just as comfortable and soft to lay on by itself if you choose.
PUL will last thru far more washings, and is more comfortable on your childs bed than the cheap plastic sheets found in stores. It is well worth the one time investment to protect your childs mattress and keep them comfortable.
PUL also comes in a huge variety of prints, basically any print you see on a cloth diaper can be found and purchased for a custom fitted sheet. If you have an older child, the prospect of having a plastic cover on their bed may embarass them. The fact that PUL comes in so many fun prints, and doesn't feel like plastic, could help ease your childs anxiety about possible bed wetting.
