Berberian Thuya is a tree of the coniferous family. It is an almost endemic species of the Atlas (Essaouira, Azemour, Idaoutanane...).

Thuya wood, special and luxurious, is a hardwood recognizable by its dark red color speckled with clusters of small dark brown dots and sometimes patterns of veins of golden color. The qualities related to this wood are its hardness, its rarity, the hundreds of textures it presents, the luxury of its appearance, the beautiful polish it manifests after polishing, and finally the beautiful smell that this exotic wood gives off.

Thuya craftsmen find a lot of problems in seeking to obtain pieces or slices of thuya suitable for their creations. The most beautiful, hard and well-textured parts of thuya wood are those from the root block. Unfortunately, because of its presence underground for a very long time, and in the majority of cases, the Thuya root block has several defects such as cracks, porosity caused by rainwater, internal holes,the presence of stones... etc. But, intact root blocks make very beautiful handicrafts.

Its wood, also known as citre, is very solid. It is also used for the framing of traditional houses. This rare wood is almost only found in Morocco. This is why its exploitation is controlled, as well as deals its export, in raw or cut condition to measure is strictly prohibited. The use of this wood has become strictly regulated by the government which has made access to this wood very difficult.

NOTE: because of the difference in the cedar roots there are differences between each box because the wood used is natural and the same quality of all the boxes.
