Dictionary deals Drawing 81 Besom Old Crone Witch with Broom Casting A Spell Magic Ink Sharpie Drawing
Dictionary Drawings are a daily sketch series I do as a warm-up exercise. Fans vote on which word they want to see and I attempt to draw it within a couple of hours. So drawing number #81 is Besom, a broom made from a bundle of sticks, much like seen associated with witches. Some “flying ointment” recipes have survived, many containing hallucinogenic transdermally absorbed ingredients such as Wolfsbane and Deadly Nightshade. This deals is what some researchers believe the iconography of “flying” witches have come from, as women would apply these staves and well, woooosh. This combination of ingredients probably led to feelings of ecstasy that felt like flying.
