deals An original rare miniature map of Buckinghamshire dating from around 1627. By original we mean this piece of paper has existed since it was originally printed in 1627 it is NOT a reproduction or modern printed copy. There are obviously a finite number of these maps which were printed at the time and many of them will not have survived the last almost 380 years so this is an opportunity to own a piece of history.
Pieter van den Keere (Latin: Petrus Kaerius 1571 – c. 1646) was a Flemish engraver, publisher and globe maker who worked for the most part of his career in England and the Dutch Republic. This 17th century map appeared in "England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland Described and Abridged... from a Farr Larger Voulume Done by John Speed" (London: G. Humble, 1627-1646).
The maps from this series were engraved in Amsterdam between 1599 and 1605 by the renowned Dutch engraver, Pieter Van Den Keere The plates were then purchased in c.1619 by John Speed's publisher, George Humble, who issued them as part of a 'pocket atlas' to accompany the larger Speed maps, they became known as 'Miniature Speed' maps.
This map is a copper engraving which has later hand colour.
It is now in a conservation quality, acid free mount which could easily be framed being a standard frame size 6 x 8 inches. This is in excellent condition, a document which has survived 380 years is rarely pristine in condition.
