Product code: Original salmon fish gyotaku made deals in the traditional way, Indian ink, Japanese paper. Marine decoration

Original work (not a reproduction), Salmon Gyotaku, 75 x 38 cm, Indian ink on Japanese paper

Uns framed

Gyotaku is an ancestral Asian technique for taking an imprint of a freshly caught fish to keep a memory. The fish is coated with Indian ink, then a Japanese paper is applied in order to transfer its imprint and make the gyotaku

The difficulty of this technique lies in the proper preparation of the fish (cleaning, positioning), the distribution of the ink and the pressure exerted with the paper.
No repositioning is possible.

Unlike many others, the gyotaku I make are not retouched !... Hence the importance of good mastery.
It is a REAL gyotaku made in the rules of the art.
Only the deals eye is repainted as tradition dictates (this gesture symbolizes "the return to life" of the fish after its imprint and death).

All gyotakus have a slight wrinkle.
This is due to the technique... the paper is applied to the fish coated with Indian ink by marrying its shapes, which generates moisture and deformation of the paper.
