An Alfred Meakin snack/cake serving set from the deco period. A beautiful Marigold pattern, hand painted on the Astoria shape pieces. And yes, they are hand painted. The clue, other than feel, is the small ‘oops' of paint under the glaze in the same colours as the design. There is a small smudge of black on the rim of the server and the odd bit of paint on the undersides, along with the painters mark (for the tally sheet at the end of the day, so he can be paid). These have been used. There are small signs of use on the plates and the server from utensils. There is also some mild crazing. (They are much older than me, and I have more ‘crazing' than these do) Meakin produced ironstone and fine bone china wares from 1875-1976, reaching their peak of popularity in the 30s and 40s. Their art-deco and children's wares were both popular and beautiful as you can see here. This would be an outstanding set for your upcoming entertainments events.
