deals British North Borneo (now known as Sabah) was a protectorate and Crown Colony in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. It became part of Indonesia in 1963. The island of Labuan which lies 6 miles north of the Borneo peninsula was part of the Straits Settlement Colony. British North Borneo was at the extreme northern tip of the Borneo peninsula. Coinage was struck in various years between 1882 and 1941. The Cent and Half-cent were Bronze, with 2 1/2 Cent and 5 Cent coins struck in Copper-nickel and 25 cent coins in silver. All coins were minted in very low numbers by the Heaton Mint of England.
The 1885 (h) Half-cent was the first year of issue. Fewer than 10 million total coins of this design were minted between 1885 and 1907, and it is remarkable to find a bronze coin in this terrific condition. The obverse shows the National Coat of Arms while the reverse shows the denomination in English and Malay inside a wreath.
