Beautiful Wall/Mantle/Hearth clock made from a Wormy Chestnut beam from a 1830's Ohio barn. . Its really a cool thing to own a piece that was hand cut by one of our Pioneer Forefathers almost 200 years ago.

This clock is 3'' deep x 9'' wide and 18 1/2'' tall. This clock is made from the huge roof rafters from the Winston Barn in Centerville Ohio. This pieces has the big deep giant swirls made from the water or early steam powered saw blade that originally sawed the beam almost 200 years ago. This is a true piece of American History that can be a show piece in your home. The top and bottom caps are modern pine with a beautiful routered edge. This piece has a oiled finish that kind of sets off the huge old swirl marks from the saw that originally milled the tree trunk into beams. This piece features a bronze plaque that tell the history of this barn beam clock. I have left the main body in its natural weathered tan color without any finish.

This clock is made as a wall clock but it is beefy enough to be showcased on a mantle, hearth, or shelf. The top and bottom caps are painted solid black with a flat matte finish. There is a bronze plaque on the front telling the history and specific origin of this specific barn beam. I encourage you to google " Wormy Chestnut" to see how important this wood was to our Pioneer Forefathers and about the terrible blight that wiped out the American Chestnut trees in the late 1800's. Pretty much the only way to get this valuable and cool wood is from reclaiming old structures.

A brochure comes with this clock that explains the history and characteristics of American Wormy Chestnut , also there are photos of the specific barn prior to and during its removal, there is even a 1982 newspaper article on the barn ( which was 150 years old at that time ) and shows Farmer Winston painting the barn on a pretty fall day. I also include a framed photo of the barn taken deals in the 1940's, it was being used as a saw mill and has gigantic tree trunks stacked in front of it. The type of wood and history of this beam and source are written on the bottom, each pieces is also signed and numbered.

This clock has a very high quality battery operated quartz mechanism for years of accurate and trouble free service, the dial is 6'' inch diameter and easily pulls straight out to change battery or set time. . The bezel ring that holds the glass in place is in solid brass and the dial has a glass domed face dial covers.
