Organic cotton, natural vegetable dyes, hand-dyed shibori fabric scraps, made in USA, upholstery deals weight, various sizes, tie-dye
This organic cotton fabric was woven in North Carolina, and I hand-dyed it with natural vegetable dyes. I used madder root, natural indigo, iron oxides, pomegranate rinds, charcoal, tiny French flowers and more. The fabric was hand stitched and gathered into folds. I then died it and cut apart the stitches. This type of pattern making is an ancient Japanese technique called Shibori. Each piece is similar but unique and has a presence of being hand-made.
These pieces are leftovers from making pillows. There are large and smaller scraps in multiple colors including coral, bark deals brown, sky blue, silver, beige and one small piece of magenta. The largest pieces are 65 inches long and 15 inches wide. There are also small pieces of about 10x15 inches. The most abundant colors are coral and bark brown, which were my best sellers and favorites. These pieces can be sewn or crafted together to make new, wonderful things.
I used to own the first natural dye house in the US. We were based in Los Angeles, and our name was Noon Design Studio. We dyed apparel for the garment industry and used only plant and insect based dyes. It was so much fun! I also made my own line of home goods, including pillows and blankets. These fabric scraps are the leftovers of many years of love and labor of making hand-dyed, naturally dyed pillows. They are totally organic and non-toxic.
They will fade in direct sunlight. But they can be washed on the gentle cycle with a gentle soap. They are 100% organic cotton woven in a beautiful sateen weave.
