deals Very old picture frame with unusual layers of detail. Dates from circa 1850 to 1880 with Late Victorian or East Lake styling. The frame is has two layers of hand painted tortoise shell effects. The outer frame features a tortoiseshell effect that is framed by thin black borders, and the frame steps down to a simple thin gold fillet, then steps down to another tortoise shell layer which appears to have slightly softer colors, it's a little more muted in color than the outer layer. Finally, the frame then steps down into a gold fillet decorated with scalloped ovals. The frame measures about 14 1/8" by 12 1/4" by 2 1/4" deep. The inside opening is about 10 1/8" by 8 1/8" so it will fit a canvas or photograph that is 8" by 10". In fair to good condition, in square with secure corners, with the kind of wear and tear and dings and dents and small chips you would expect from something 100 to 150 years old, and one long chip on the edge of the inner gold fillet. No backer board and no glass.
