This came from the estate of a friend's mother. It actually belonged to her grandmother and used to be a pair of earrings. Her grandmother lost one and had it converted into this lovely little brooch.
It hasn't been appraised, but I do believe that the pearls are genuine and that the brooch is gold of some Karat. I don't think that the woman would have bothered to convert it into a pin otherwise. The pin has quite an interesting guard. Once the pin goes through the fabric, the guard goes on the shaft of the pin before closing it. That way if it comes undone, you won't lose the brooch. Clearly, the original owner did not want to lose this again.
The brooch measures 1 inch across at its widest point, and is 1 inch tall.
It would be beautiful on a lapel, at the deals base of a neckline or grouped with other gold brooches.
