Ornate vintage Chinese jewelry box in high gloss black lacquer with fine inlaid mother of pearl and brass hardware. This box is absolutely exquisite! Based on its metal tag most likely dates to the 1940s, a time when "Made in China" meant you were getting some of the most meticulous hand crafted products in the world. The lacquer work is done in multiple layers and is virtually mint, with not chips or scratches. It is decorated with deals the some of the finest mother of pearl inlay work we've ever seen, depicting a variety of flowers and birds in flight and sitting on branches, and is done in multiple pastel colors as shown. All of the corners, hinges, and handles are brass, which is also finely etched with floral designs. Inside we find 4 drawers, all padded and lined. The bottom drawer is deeper and has 2 layers with a tray that lifts out. Two of the other drawers are trays and one is half tray with 3 pleats for rings on the other side. The box measures 8.5" high, 6" wide, and 5" deep. There is a metal tag on the back marked "made in China" along with some Chinese writing. Would make a lovely gift for someone special.
