Simple sterling silver pattern bezel pendant, set with a natural 6.30 carat pear or teardrop shape Tourmaline. The Tourmaline measures 16.5 mm x 13 mm x 3.8 mm thick, and is Checkerboard or Rose Cut on both sides. The stone is a fairly thin cut, so it does not stick out the back of the bezel setting very much, and is quite comfortable to wear. The pendant is reversible, and can be worn with front or back facing out. I have it pictured both ways. The chain is an 18" sterling silver 1.4 mm round cable chain. The pattern on the bezel are delicate beads of silver, which you can see in picture #3. This pendant is completely made, and ready to ship to you the business day after you place your order.

This Rubellite Tourmaline was earth mined in Mozambique, and is completely natural; unheated and untreated in any way. There are some surface pits and imperfections on the stone, as well as internal flaws. It has fair transparency, but is somewhat cloudy as you can see in picture #2, which shows the stone back lit. It is a beautiful deep pinkish red color. The name Rubellite refers to how it's color resembles the color of a ruby. Rubellite tourmaline, being a very deep pink tourmaline, is the birthstone for those born in October.

The last picture is for visual size and scale reference, so you can see exactly what size the pendant is. It shows the necklace next to a US dime coin and 1" on a ruler. The sterling silver I use to make my jewelry is alloyed using newly refined recycled silver. The only difference between recycled sterling silver and silver not identified as recycled is the source of the pure silver. Recycled silver has less impact on the environment than newly mined silver. Otherwise, it is exactly the same. I believe that if we all work together towards positive change, we can make the world a better, healthier place. That's why I use recycled where I can. The black jewelry box it will be sent in is also made with 100% recycled materials.

Gemologically Speaking; This is the educational part:

The Tourmaline mineral group is chemically one of the most complicated of the silicate minerals. All tourmaline has the basic silicate Si6O18 at the center of it's chemical formula, but added to that are varying amounts of aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, calcium, lithium, and/or potassium along with some oxygen and hydrogen to boot. As an example, the pretty green and pink tourmalines use in jewelry are often Elbaite, tourmaline named for the island of Elba, with the chemical formula Na(Li1.5,Al1.5)Al6Si6O18(BO3)3(OH)4. The color of tourmaline is determined by which metal ions are present in the crystal. Tourmaline rich in iron is usually brown or black. Magnesium rich varieties are usually brown or yellow, while lithium rich tourmaline can be red, pink, yellow, green, or blue. Geologically, tourmaline occurs in 2 types of rocks. deals It can be found in igneous granites and granite pegmatite, and in metamorphic schist or marble. Tourmaline crystalizes in the trigonal crystal system. Crystals are usually long, slender, and triangular in shape when viewed from the end. Tourmaline is the only common mineral that has 3 sided crystals. The major sources of tourmaline are Brazil and Africa. Gem tourmaline is mined in several states in Brazil, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Malawi. In the United States tourmaline is mined in Maine and California. Tourmaline is almost never treated to improve it's appearance, and this stone is completely natural and untreated in any way.

Metaphysically Speaking:

Metaphysically tourmaline has a strong positive influence on one who carries or uses it and is a powerful healer. It dispels fear and negative influences. It enhances sensitivity and understanding, and aids with concentration and inspiration. It strengthens and vitalizes the body and mind, and can be used to help with sleep problems. It is said to have a strong affinity with and balancing affect on the endocrine system and on the heart. Tourmaline is said to have the power to attract friends and lovers, protect the wearer from bad decisions, and shield it's owner from danger. Pink tourmaline is the faceted gem most often chosen as the October birthstone.
