Tarbert is a Scottish village, built around East Loch Tarbet, an inlet of Loch Fyne, with a long history as a harbour and deals as a mediaeval strategic point guarding access to Kintyre and the Inner Hebrides. Its socioeconomic prosperity however came during the early modern period, when the port developed into a fishing town.The first edition, by Dugald Mitchell. A scarce volume. Mitchell explores the history of the town from the fourteenth century to recent times, with some details on its antiquities and topographical information. Illustrated with three charming full page plates. Condition Report: In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelf wear and some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With some minor marking to the rear board, while the cloth to the spine has only slightly faded. Inscribed to the front free endpaper by a previous owner, dated '56 and with a faint pencil mark to the front pastedown. Also inscribed to the title page, dated 1886. internally, firmly bound. With only a faint minor spotting to the fore edge, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with three charming full page plates. Overall: Very Good Indeed
