Antique Victorian teapot, porcelain, handpainted, soft floral design, unusual twisted body, rococo embelishments, deals excellent condition
More than 125 years ago, a Victorian lady tightened up her corset and invited her neighbours over for tea. She poured from this teapot.
Maybe it was this tea pot that was her favourite morning, breakfast in bed, or tea in the parlour in the afternoon.
somebody must have loved it to keep it so unblemished after all these years.
And it is easy to love. It is a beautiful example of an 1800's teapot, when people took their tea serving very seriously. It is a deals lovely quality porcelain china, with wonderful art nouveau era flourishes on the spout, handle and lid, and around the top of the pot.
The handpainted floral design is of a cluster of small pink flowers, shadowed with a pale blue against the white of the porcelain. Very gentle and feminine and nicely painted.
This is all very well and good, and can be found in a lot of other Victorian antique teapots. The particularly interesting design feature of this pot is the twisted body.
I really can't do it justice with words...there are curved ridges in the bottom third of the pot, which is bulbous, that give it the appearance of being twisted in its shape. Quite genius, and not like anything else I have encountered.
It is in excellent condition, no chips cracks or crazing. There is one tiny manufacturing mark on one of the ridges. See photos.
