This is a beautifully done engraving of Salt Lake City early in it's history . I think the engraving was done sometime in the early to mid 1850's . As Salt Lake City's history began in 1847 the size of town depicted seems within a few years after. The engraving was created and carved on a copper plate by Eiganthum d. Verleger . It was produced by Aus d. Kunstanst. d. Bibl. Instit. in Hildbhan . The engraving itself measures roughly 7 1/2 ' w by 6 ' t and is in a 12 1/4'' by 10 3/4'' frame. The dull imprint of the plates edge can be seen in the pictures along the outside edge markings of dots. The fifth picture shows the plate edge with the differing textures in the paper, a loop does aid in the view.
