deals This series of paintings I have been working on continuously since 2009 relies heavily upon and is inspired by the works of the amazing midcentury, architectural photographer Julius Schulman. I enjoy taking his photographs and repainting them, keeping the image in black and white. Then I add an odd element...something unexpected to surprise and play with the image. Most of Schulman's photographs are taken in the region of Southern California and having grown up in Los Angeles, I connect sweetly and closely to the idealistic "cool" that his works convey. They are striking, and beautiful and encapsulate a period in time when architecture was moving forward in leaps and bounds, creating artistic homes not just for the wealthy but for the everyman. I have had so much fun with this series; choosing which photographs to use, thinking of the weird ways in which to change the image, and working on a large scale. It is a joy for me to recreate and play with this beauty and I hope you enjoy it as well :)
