This impressive fish is the largest of all rays. Despite its size, it eats mainly plankton. The horn-like cephalic fins in front of the head can be rolled up to form a funnel that helps channel water and food into the mouth when deals feeding. The word 'Manta ' originates from the resemblance of this ray's wide , flapping fins to a cloak or mantle. The Manta ray is a solitary species, but individuals are often accompanied by other fish species, such as cleaner fish, remoras and pilot fish. The lifespan of the Manta ray is approximately 20 years.
