The SS United States was built between 1950 and 1951 and remains the largest ocean liner ever to be constructed entirely within the United States. She was built for the United States Lines and holds the record for being the fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic (in both directions). She was designed so that she could be converted into a troopship if the Navy required her in time of war. She went on to maintain an uninterrupted transatlantic passenger service scheduled until 1969. As the SS United States was laid down, a new era was on the horizon and by the 1970s transatlantic passenger aircraft were taking over from traditional ocean liners. She was sold several times since the 1970s with each new owner failing in returning her to profit. In the end, the SS United States' fittings were sold at an auction, and her hazardous wastes (like asbestos) were stripped out of her. By 1994 she was completely stripped. Around 1996 she was towed to Pier 82 on the Delaware River in Philadelphia and has languished there ever since. She has fought off being sold for scrap numerous times as different preservation groups have battled to restore her one day to her former glory. (Source: thetravel.com)

A: Yes but some models will tip on their side, they were designed as models so the fact that they float at all is a bonus :)

Q: deals Is this a toy?
A: This is a model not a TOY. Some small pieces can break off. Although so many customers buy these for their kids and love them and I have redesigned them all to make them as strong as possible, ultimately these are models not toys. Models like this one are okay for light handling, but I wouldn't recommend playing with it.

Q: Will the paint come off in water?
A: This is not a painted model. Our models are produced using an innovative multi-color 3d printing technique so there is not a drop of paint on this one :) They are okay to get wet and the water will not damage the model.

Q: Is this the coolest thing of all time?
A: Yes. Without a doubt, this is the coolest thing of all time.
